Mi’kmaq History

Thanks to Tammy MacDonald,Consultation/Negotiation Coordinator and Historical Researcher with the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI, we have identified some interesting facts about the Mi’kmaq in the Stratford Area.

“As you can see… the documented Mi’kmaq land and resource use of Stratford and surrounding areas was extensive for several hundred years. As well, the famed Mi’kmaq runner, Michael Thomas, a world class athlete, made his home in Stratford early in his marriage, until his death in 1954” (MacDonald, pers. communication)
