Stratford Area Watershed Improvement Group: A Glimpse into the Exciting World of Watersheds on Prince Edward Island

What Can I Do to Help My Watershed?

There are many simple ways in which you can help protect your local watershed! Some of these actions include:

1) Landscaping with native Acadian Forest plants to increase water infiltration

2) Planting native trees and shrubs in your buffer zones

3) Using lawn chemicals sparingly or not at all

4) Not wasting water by watering your lawn or flowers in the heat of the day, and by never hosing down your driveway to clean it

5) Using rainbarrels to capture and conserve water

6) Using low-flow showerheads, toilets and water saving devices in your home. Always repair leaky faucets and pumps

7) Maintaining your vehicles and eliminating leaks and spills

8) Recycling and disposing of household chemicals properly

9) Inspecting and maintaining septic systems and sewers

10) Supporting your local watershed group by becoming a member and/or volunteering your time!
