The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is an annual conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, and presented by LobLaw Companies Inc.
“The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup has become Canada’s largest contributor to the International Coastal Cleanup, a global effort to remove harmful litter and aquatic debris from shorelines. With the assistance of sponsors, partners, and donors, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup has been able to expand and grow, enabling greater awareness of the negative effects of shoreline litter” (Shoreline Cleanup, no date).
SAWIG had a wonderful first year, tackling the beach at Tea Hill Park on September 8, 2012. We had approximately 15 volunteers brave the elements (ha! It was a beautiful warm summer day!) to collect about 10 bags of garbage and a few larger items as well. It was great fun, good camaraderie, and a chance to eat some snacks!
We look forward to seeing you all in 2013! Watch for location and details.
